Pollutants and Cures

Fuels, Oils and Solvents
  • Store products so that they are not exposed to rain water
  • Repair leaks immediately
  • Clean up products that have spilled on the ground
  • Recycle products

Automotive fluids
  • Routinely check for leaks and fix/repair issues immediately
  • Follow maintenance schedule outline in owners’ manual
  • Clean up and properly dispose of products according to package label
  • Use a drop cloth when working on your vehicles

Sediment and Erosion of Dirt and Soil
  • Use a 'weed eater' to cut back vegetated areas in ditches
  • Refrain from driving ATV's over creek banks
  • Properly install erosion and sedimentation control devices
  • Maintain all erosion and sedimentation control devices
  • Cover all bare soil/dirt to eliminate exposure to rain water

Latex and Oil Based Paints and Products
  • Store products so that they are not exposed to rain water

  • Read and follow package label directions
  • Test your soil and apply only the amount you need

  • Choose safe alternatives when possible

  • Compost grass clippings, leaves and other yard debris
  • Mow and mulch your grass clippings and leaves back into your turf
  • Rake and bag your leaves for curbside pickup
  • Keep the storm drain system clean and free of debris and leaves

Litter, Trash, and Debris
  • Tightly secure trash can lid for curbside pickup
  • Secure or tarp all loose items in truck beds
  • Properly dispose of cigarette butts
  • Properly dispose of everything ... when it doubt don't do it.

    • Pick up and properly dispose of your pet waste
    • Read and follow the maintenance manual for your septic tank
    • Report overflowing sewer lines immediately
